Inducted in 1979, Woodrow W. “Woody” Edmondson began flying when he was 16 years old and operated the first licensed airport in Virginia – Clover Airport in Halifax County. He began managing the Lynchburg Airport in 1937 and started the first approved civilian pilot training program in Virginia. He became well known as an aerobatic pilot, winning the 1948 International Aerobatic Championship and raced in the Thompson Trophy races. He then moved to Washington, D.C. and operated Fairways Corporation, an executive aircraft contract service.
