Martinsville, Virginia
Inducted in 1981, George T. Lester was the first pilot in Martinsville, Virginia. In 1934, he was responsible for the development of Lester Field, which was Martinsville’s first airport. It was located one block from the city Courthouse and served the community for 25 years. Lester is recognized and credited as being the founding father of aviation in Martinsville.
