Frank E. "Pop" Hatcher

Lynchburg, Virginia

Inducted in 1978, Frank E. “Pop” Hatcher was the first man in Lynchburg to hold both an airplane mechanics and a pilot’s license. As an examiner for mechanics, he issued over 200 licenses and built his own airplane when he became interested in flying. He won the FAA’s National Safety Award in 1968 and in 1978 Governor Mills F. Godwin presented him an award for “outstanding dedication and continuous long service to general aviation in Virginia.”
