Inducted in 1984, Charles W. Carneal was a pioneer airline pilot whose career went from the wood and wire era to the jet age. He earned his Army wings at Kelly Field, TX just after WWI and was a bomber pilot at Langley Field, VA. In 1931, he flew the first airmail between Washington D.C. and Pittsburgh, PA. Later, Carneal joined Ludington Airlines flying Stinson Tri-motors in the Mid-Atlantic region. He then flew for Eastern Airlines after they purchased Ludington Airlines in 1933. He retired from Eastern in 1960 with 38,000 hours of flying time.
