Inducted in 1998, A. Scott Crossfield, Jr., was a US Navy fighter pilot and gunnery instructor during WWII.  After the war, he earned a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Aeronautical Engineering.  During the early 1950’s, he was an Aeronautical Research Pilot for NACA participating in the X-1, X-2, X-3, X-4, X-5, XF-92, D558-I and D558-II research airplane programs.  In the late 1950’s, he was an X-15 Project Pilot, flying the X-15 on its first 30 demonstration flights.  During the 1960’s, he worked on the Hound Dog Missile, Apollo Command and Service Module, and Saturn II booster programs. Crossfield then served as an executive for Eastern Airlines, Hawker Siddeley Aviation Inc., and technical consultant for the House Committee on Science and Technology.  He has logged more than 7,000 flying hours in more than 100 different types of military, civilian, and research aircraft.  He was the first pilot to successfully fly at Mach 2 and Mach 3, and has been awarded numerous aerospace awards including the 1961 Collier Trophy.
